The INVOS Cerebral Oximeter, Preamplifier and SomaSensors

The INVOS Cerebral Oximeter system monitors changes in the regional oxygen saturation, or rSO2, within a sample of hemoglobin in the cerebral cortex. Changes in INVOS values reflect changes in the critical balance between arterial oxygen delivery and cerebral consumption.

· Continuous and noninvasive
· Risk free to clinician and patient
· Not pulse, pressure or temperature dependent
· Pre-calibrated and ready to use in just 30 seconds
· Compact and portable

The INVOS Cerebral Oximeter provides noninvasive, continuous and direct information on regional cerebral oxygen saturation. The measurement takes place in real time, providing an immediate indication of a change in the critical balance of oxygen delivery and oxygen consumption.

The screen displays the rSO2, trend data, system status, alarm limits, rSO2 limits, date and time. Also displayed are menus for default parameter changes, alarm messages and data trending rate. Menu keys allow the operator to change available options as desired.

Alarm notification, consisting of visual and audible indicators, appears immediately following display of a saturation value outside of the user-adjusted high or low limits. An on-screen trend (graph) display is updated every 30 or 60 seconds (user selectable). The trend can be adjusted to display variable lengths of stored data from one hour to 24 hours. Data can be retrieved by using the RS-232 port via a null modem cable or disk drive. Both the null modem cable and disk drive are available for purchase.

Preamplifier Cable

The 15-foot long Preamp cable attaches to a portal on the front panel of the Cerebral Oximeter. The Preamplifier provides an electrically isolated connection for the SomaSensor. At the other end of the Preamp is the patient connection to attach the bilateral reusable cable and SomaSensors.

SomaSensor®

The SomaSensor, a disposable, non-sterile transducer, is capable of producing and detecting near infrared light using patented optical design characteristics, converting this data to electrical signals and relaying them to the INVOS system. A SomaSensor is applied to the forehead with an integrated medical-grade adhesive.

The SomaSensor is designed for single use only and may not be reused. (Reuse of the SomaSensor may cause inaccurate readings, erratic readings, or no readings at all.) There are different SomaSensors for adult, small adult and pediatric patients.

Bilateral Reusable Sensor Cable

The sensor cable is intended for multiple use and should not be discarded. The Bilateral Reusable Sensor Cable connects the SomaSensors to the Preamp.

INVOS Cerebral Oximeter Accessories

The following accessories can also be purchased for use with the
INVOS system:

Disk Drive

A disk drive allows data from the INVOS system to be transferred and stored on an IBM formatted DS/HD 3.5" floppy disk. Clinical information is then available for future review and archiving. The data can be plotted in a variety of formats. Use only a Somanetics supplied disk drive with the INVOS system.

Portable Stand

A portable rolling stand is available, providing flexibility in placement of the INVOS Cerebral Oximeter in your facility.

The base is 24" in diameter, made of die cast aluminum and polished and buffed with a scratch resistant finish. The five point casters are four inches in diameter, non locking with full swivel. The portable stand height, from floor to mounting plate, is 47", with a 55" height overall. A utility basket (12" wide, 8" deep and 12" high) is included. Easy assembly.

Field Test Device

The field test device allows for functional testing of the INVOS system. Only a Somanetics supplied field test device should be used with the INVOS Cerebral Oximeter.

Travel Case

A protective equipment case to safely transport your INVOS Cerebral Oximeter monitor and component parts is available. The padded case, made of two-ply extra firm density foam with polyethylene reinforcements, comes with a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap and an outside zippered pocket. Attractive and sturdy.
